Principle Investigator T2B program. Work package leader WP 3, actively engaged with WP 6, WP 2/5 as well as WP 7

My research is largely translational of nature and reflects a longstanding collaboration between the Amsterdam University Medical Center (AUMC) and Sanquin  as part of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Disease manifestations of severe invasive/systemic infections or hyperinflammation with organ failure are the focus of my research, encompassing B cells, T cells and the life cycle of neutrophils, including their development and function. Investigations in genetically characterized patients have increased our understanding of disease. Insight from such ‘experiments of nature’ has helped to also improve clinical outcome by immunomodulation or immunosuppressive drugs in a more rational, predictive fashion in clinical autoimmune diseases, autoinflammation and severe tissue injury.
